RESEARCH: What is a music video?

 BACKGROUND RESEARCH

Purpose of music videos: A music video is usually a short film or video that accompanies a song or piece of music. The video usually features the song's artist or band performing the song, but it can also include other visuals such as narrative storylines, dance sequences, animation, or abstract imagery that complements the song's lyrics and mood.
Music videos are often used as promotional tools to showcase new music or to enhance the visibility and appeal of established artists. They are typically distributed through television, streaming services, and online platforms like YouTube.  Success is measured in the form of views, charts, and radio plays. If the music video is boring or poorly produced it won’t achieve high numbers. For many people it takes putting a visual to it for it to become a song of interest otherwise it might have been a song they didn’t pay much attention to.

Extension of income: Music videos can be an important extension of income for musicians and artists. While traditional revenue streams for musicians such as record sales and touring have declined in recent years, music videos have become a key part of a musician's overall marketing strategy.

In addition to promoting the song and artist, music videos can generate revenue through various channels. For example, YouTube pays artists and labels based on the number of views their videos receive, as well as through advertising revenue. Other platforms like Vevo and Vimeo also offer monetization options for music videos.

Music videos can also be used as a platform for sponsored content and product placement deals, which can generate additional revenue for artists. Additionally, music videos can be licensed for use in television shows, movies, and advertisements, providing another potential source of income.
